Prepping and Tagging Guidelines

Now that you’re ready to tag, here’s the prepping basics: Make sure the items are clean and in very gently used condition.  The best thing you can do is check clothes in bright light before you start tagging.  Items also need to be free of holes, too much wear, debris, and odor free. Any items that are battery operated need to have batteries (check the Dollar Store for cheap ones). Clothes that are prone to wrinkling try drying them (or even ironing) before tagging. Making them look good will help them to sell.

Go here for the Pricing guidelines if you need help on how to find that “sweet spot” when pricing items.

Make sure you’ve read our Accepted items list, as we have recently changed a few categories.

OUR INVENTORY SYSTEM WILL BE CLOSING ON WED SEPTEMBER 26th AT NOON.  At that time NO new inventory will be able to be entered into the tagging system , but you will be able to print tags for all items entered up to that point.

Items you will need to prepare and price your goods (all linked items below are to Amazon products):

  • Tagging gun or Safety Pins (no straight pins allowed) for tagging clothes
  • Zip ties or strong ribbon
  • Ziplock bags: Small, Medium, Large. Clear bags only please.
  • Working batteries in all items that require them. Dollar Tree has affordable batteries.
  • Wet wipes and magic erasers to clean items such as toys
  • Clothes need cardstock. Regular paper cannot be accepted on clothes unless they are stickers. Best price at Walmart or Sams. Paper is fine for almost all non clothes items.
  • Painter’s tape (required to put tags on books, but great to tape other things such as book bundles, etc) $1 @ Dollar tree
  • Packing tape (securing tags to items, extra security on ziplock bags) $1 @ Dollar tree

Enter items into your consignor account:

  • Login/Register to your consignor account & click on ‘consignor’, and then ‘add items’
  • Choose the category and gender of item you’re consigning and size if it’s a clothing item.
    • For infant clothing use the following size guidelines:
      • 0-3 months = 3 months
      • 0-6 months = 3 months
      • 3-6 months = 6 months
      • 6-12 months = 9 months
      • 6-9 months = 9 months
      • 9-12 months = 12 months
      • 12-18 months = 18 months
      • 18-24 months = 24 months
    • For youth clothing use the following size guidelines:
      • XS = 4/5
      • S = 6/6X
      • M = 7/8
      • L = 10/12
      • XL = 14/16
  • Be as descriptive as possible when labeling items. Include brand name, color, etc. This helps us find your item in our system in case the tag becomes removed from the item.
  • You may choose to mark some or all of your items as half-off during the end of the sale.
  • You may also choose whether or not to donate any unsold items.
  • Once you’re finished you can choose to print tags as you go or all at once.
  • Use white cardstock (no regular paper or colored cardstock will be accepted for clothes) when printing tags.
  • The tag will look similar to this when printed:

Tagging Items:

Clothing:

  • Arrange by size and gender.
  • Please use safety pins (no straight pins or clothes pins) or a tagging gun.
  • Be sure to place the tag on the right side (when facing you) of the item.
  • If using a tagging gun be sure to place the tag in a SEAM on the right side (when facing you) of the item OR in the sizing/brand tag.
  • Please take care not to create any holes in the clothing. The size tags are the best place to tag clothes.
  • 2 piece items should be pinned back to back for better visibility.
  • If an accessory comes with an item, place in a ziplock bag and pin or using a tagging gun barb to secure it to the item.
  • To increase sales consider pinning multiple onesies together, especially those in the newborn to 18 month range.

Final Edit Tagging ClothesShoes:

  • Only clean and gently used shoes will be accepted.
  • Arrange by size and gender.
  • Secure them together with zip ties or ribbon and attach the tag or place in a bag.
  • For extra security we highly suggest reinforcing the top of the tag with clear packaging tape before attaching it to the shoes.

Accessories:

  • Socks, hair bows, hats, bibs, and other accessories sell best when bundled together.
  • Place in ziplock bags and either tape the tag onto the bag or secure it to an item in the bag.
  • Please note that socks do not sell well unless they are new or like new and priced very competitively.

Toys and Large Toys:

  • All toys should be clean and free of any scuffing or damage.
  • Batteries MUST be included to inspect for proper working order. Dollar Tree has inexpensive batteries.
  • Place loose parts and/or the manual in a ziplock bag and secure it to the item. Items with manuals sell best!

Games/Puzzles:

  • All pieces MUST be included!
  • Secure loose puzzle pieces together with plastic wrap or in a ziplock bag.
  • Use painters tape or saran wrap to secure the lids to the bottom of the box.

Books:

  • Books (kids & YA books only) should be free of tears, rips, and scribbles on the pages.
  • Place the tag on the inside back cover with painters tape.
  • Be careful not to cover the barcode with tape.

Baby Equipment:

  • All equipment must be fully assembled when dropping off.
  • Secure any loose items or accessories in a ziplock back and then to the item.

Bedding:

  • Bedding should be clean, in excellent condition, free of any wear or staining.
  • Price these very competitively.
  • If possible, put bedding sets in original packaging or in XXL ziplock bags.
  • Hanging bedding on a sturdy hanger is also acceptable.
  • Grouping together smaller blankets, such as receiving blankets, will help them sell better.

Home Goods/Furniture:

  • Items like stockpile goods (shampoos, lotions, detergent, etc)..
  • For items that would be damaged by the packing tape, please use blue painter’s tape instead.
  • Breakables are placed in a plastic bag or if possible the original box.
  • For furniture use blue painter’s tape.

Unsold Items:

  • Items must be picked up on September 30, 2018 from 4-6pm.  Items that are not picked up will be donated to one of our charities.
